Katherine Jenkins

Katherine Jenkins early decided that she wanted to become a classical singer. Beginning to take piano lessons at the age of seven, she also joined the local church choir, soon to turn into the permanent star fixture.

At seventeen she had already received several singing awards and won a scholarship to study opera at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Graduating with an honour degree, this was her crowning achievement to become a professional artist.

Recently having celebrated her 27th birthday, the former schoolteacher from Neath, South Wales, has accomplished more than most other classical singers could hope to achieve in a lifetime.

In 2003, Jenkins signed the biggest deal in classical recording history, and in early 2004 she released her debut album in the UK, appropriately titled 'Premier'. By selling more than 30,000 copies in the first week, it became the fastest selling album of all time by a mezzo-soprano.

Her sophomore album 'Second Nature' came out the same year, and in 2005 she released 'Living a Dream' which stayed at number one for an astonishing 47 weeks. By the end of the year, Jenkins could celebrate another amazing record as she had become the only singer in musical history to simultaneously hold the number 1, 2 and 3 position in the Classical Charts which she did with her three albums.

Additionally, Katherine Jenkins also had become the ever first female to win two consecutive Classical BRIT Awards.

With an ever-growing fanbase, Katherine today performs at the most prestigious venues in the world, including the Sydney Opera House, the Royal Albert Hall and the 74,000-seat Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, located only miles from her own hometown.

Released on November 19, 2007, Katherine Jenkins' new 13 track strong classical crossover album 'Rejoice' includes four songs produced by Per Magnusson and David Kreuger:

Sancta Maria
Taken from the opera Cavalleria Rusticana written by Italian composer Pietro Mascagni in 1890.

Secret Love
Taken from the 1953 original Hollywood musical Calamity Jane, starring actress/singer Doris Day whom won an Academy Award for the song. Katherine Jenkins' version of "Secret Love" features harmonica genius Toots Thielemans.

Requiem for a Soldier
Taken from the multi award-winning television miniseries Band of Brothers, co-produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.
