In February 2002 Will Young was crowned winner of Pop Idol's first season. Two weeks later he released his first single, the double A-side Evergreen / Anything is Possible. It became the fastest selling debut single for the first day as well as first week.
The Official Charts Company now shows that by selling 1,8 million copies Evergreen, co-written and co-produced by Per Magnusson and David Kreuger, is UK's biggest selling single of the 21st century.
In December 2005 Shayne Ward won the second series of The X Factor. His debut single That's My Goal, produced by Magnusson & Kreuger, became that year's Christmas number one, holding the top position for four weeks straight.
By turning 1,1 million copies, That's My Goal is at No 8 on the OCC's list of the last decade's biggest selling singles.
Evergreen is also found at No 2 on the list, this time as the b-side on 2002 Pop Idol runner-up Gareth Gates' debut single Unchained Melody.
